------- Additional Comments From mfabian suse de 2007-08-28 13:06 -------
I am running in ja_JP.UTF-8 locale
mfabian magellan:~$ locale
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
mfabian magellan:~$
with LANGUAGE not set, but when starting the konsole from KDE4
(/usr/bin/konsole) it sets LANGUAGE to ‘en_US’ which gives me English
messages from programs started from konsole.
Stefan Seifried had the same problem that konsole set LANGUAGE=de
for him which surprisingly overrode his LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8.
I don’t understand why konsole does this and I think it shouldn’t.
