It seems that this bug appears in Kubuntu because of some undesired interaction between konsole/yakuake and an input package called 'scim-qtimm'. See another report in the ubuntu BTS: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/scim-qtimm/+bug/35760 .
