I apologise for the late reply.

Unfortunately, I have since totally changed my distro.  The distro was Mandrake 9.0 (2002!) which had problems antialising in recent KDE builds.

As no one else seems to have experienced this bug, it was an old and buggy distro and I don't have the setup to reproduce anymore, I suggest closing this report.
