i think that last suggestion would be really tough... if your two pane are two different shell, running two different vim instance,... would be tough them to follow each others.

i guess either vim or emacs can already do that.

having multiple pane in konsole would be really nice.
and maybe saving view profile just as in konqueror... would be great.
just saving pane geometry and PWD.
