In the my kde 3.2.1 I'm still experiencing the bug specified above setting a transparent background with a dark filter.
Distro is gentoo.
Compiler version is:
 version is gcc version 3.3.3 20040217 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.3, propolice-3.3-7)

Even though not a blocking bug, quite annoying to be watched...
