sorry, in the example i mixed up left and right: 
 1)  right hand : select with mouse in konsole, RMB click  
 2)  left hand  : ALT-Tab (will bring up kate or ...)  
 3a) left hand  : CTRL-V will paste at the cursor  
 3b) right hand : select some text in kate  
     left hand  : CTRL-V will overwrite the selected text with  
                  the text selected in the konsole window
