This sounds pretty stupid, but I don't know.

The day after I sent the bug report, the mail server from my ISP was down, so 
I didn't get any mail at all :-(

I think the bug report showed how elusive the behaviour was and therefore it 
was likelly a bug. If you recall how it worked, then you will notice that if 
both the base slot and the derived one have the same index, then you get the 
old behaviour. This means your program works diferently if you change the 
order of slot declaration. This was present in my test case.
