I do a make cvs-clean on every rebuild.  I did follow your suggestion
and made clean and ran make again.  It seems to work now... which is
slightly frustrating.  I am guessing that either make cvs-clean doesn't
clean up everything that clean does?  If not It is obvious now that my
build scripts need a make clean in addition to make cvs-clean.
