Hi

Have a look at KVim 6.0 (e.g. on http://dot.kde.org there are all the links 
:). It has a KPart, too. I know, this is not really as basic as you wanted 
it, but it is a big step.

IMHO it is overkill to replace the basic text edit widgets with a KVim Part 
(or a konsole part with vi ;), but hey parhaps it makes sense somewhere.
