The error message is fixed since at least 3.2 (not sure about 3.1), the error dialog now also has a reasonable default size. Thus I consider this fixed.

Concerning the Drafts vs. Output question: KMail puts messages which couldn't send into the Output folder. That makes sense IMHO since the error could be temporary (think of dial-up connections). If you are able to convince the KMail team to change this, KNode will of course follow ;)
