Summary: knode cannot talk to rfc-977-only nntp servers.
           Product: knode
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: knode-devel kde org
ReportedBy: kde-bugs james is never wrong nu

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.2 gcc version 3.3.2 20031218 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.2-r5, propolice-3.3-7)
OS: Linux

KNode relies on the MODE READER extension to RFC 977, and does not cope well with a server that doesn't understand this command. A conversation goes like this:

S: 201 Server ready, no posting.
C: MODE READER
S: 501 Command not understood.
C: <disconnects>

Expected behaviour from an rfc 977 client would be to carry on the session.
