I don't like these AppImages myself to be honest, especially when they are used with non-KDE
desktops. Since the build of them is not controlled by KMyMoney devs and I don't have a
reference build environment I cannot make any changes to the process. And I don't want to
do that in public without knowing what else I break by doing so.

The button being greyed out may be a problem of the software. I will take a look when I find some time.
The other questions regarding deleted source etc. are kind of hard to analyze because I don't have access
to all the little details on your system. Also, I don't know what to ask for. This part of the code is
rather long standing and I don't remember the details how it works (is supposed to work).
