On editing the transaction I found that KMM had split the transaction
into buy and fees of the same money amount giving a total cost/value of
zero. However the edit now showed a strange account. This I found was in
fact a sub-category with the same name as as the original renamed
brokerage and the cost of the shares had been debited. to that category.
I guess KMM searches for the brokerage account name through all accounts
(which include categories) and had used that sub-category in a curious way.
Anyway I deleted that category and made sure that there was no other
reference to the brokerage account in the other categories. The QIF
import now asks for an alternative account (or create) as it could not
find the required brokerage account. This is what you suggested might
happen and would have except for the coincidence of the category with
the same name. Many thanks for your efforts in this regard.
I still have 12 renamed closed accounts which are unwanted. As I have
moved all unfiltered transactions to the General Brokerage and the
accounts are empty, can you please explain why I cannot simply delete
them? Also is there no way for KMM to distinguish between a category and
an account?
