Gary,

there is no problem when using a file created with 4.8.x on 5.0.x and vice versa. Up and downgrading is not the problem (AFAIR) except being tedious in your use case which requires to unmap and remap the online account when switching versions because an internal name has been changed between the two KMyMoney versions.

Why don't you upgrade the Windows version also to 5.0? There are some installers available with differing contents:

1) https://build.opensuse.org/package/binary/download/windows:mingw:win64/mingw64-kmymoney5:mingw64-kmymoney5-installer/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/x86_64/mingw64-kmymoney5-installer-5.0.4-lp151.5.7.noarch.rpm

This contains a windows installer which needs to be extracted using a zip tool (AFAIR)

2) https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/KMyMoney_Release_win64/

On this page you find the latest stable build (build daily). This may not contain all plugins and translations.

She gave me the KDE version number.  The KMM version is 4.8.0

You said you can not use 4x and 5x on the same file.  So it will cause problems if I work on the file created with 4.8.0 using my 5.0 version?

Yes, that is why I was asking for the exact version numbers (though 4.12.5 is not a KMyMoney version number).

And it is true, you cannot use 4.x and 5.x on the same file.

I do not recommend to change the data file unless you know exactly what you are doing.
