Don't take this as authoritative, but my understanding is that Mint is 
based on Ubuntu, and that Ubuntu is/was based on Debian.  In fact, isn't 
there a Debian version of Mint?

They all use apt-get, I think, so it may be worth a try.  Remember to 
backup, in case of problems.
