Did you take a look at the manual already? It may contain a few hints about

The general workflow is that you open your asset account (eg. checking or 
current account) in the ledger view and enter transactions there. As the 
category you select the one you mentioned above.

In case you mention the category with your question, it is used to organize 
your categories for income and expenses.
