[Kmymoney] Investment accounts

I am a fellow user and I have mapped my Schwab accounts in KMM. It's not
clear to me from your email, did you map the brokerage account in KMM to
Schwab or the investment account (the one with the buys, sells, dividends
...). I know this was a little confusing to me when I first setup
my brokerage accounts. I know at first I renamed them so they made more
sense to me and that broke the link between them. That was 5 or 6 years ago
so I don't know i that's still an issue.

I have struggled with my mapped brokerage accounts for many years in KMM.
They have different problems (that is different brokers have different
problems). My biggest complaint is that KMM has no way to handle CDs. I find
myself manually fixing different types of transactions in KMM from both
brokers that I have mapped to KMM. I have submitted requests to fix the OFX
problems and to add an investment type for CDs and neither has been worked
on to date.

In the defense of the developers, I don't think any of them use Charles
Schwab and they have been very busy recently converting KMM from KDE3 to
KDE4 and dealing with the bugs that were introduced during the conversion.
The person that maintains the OFX part of the code lives in Europe and does
not have access to any banks that use OFX (I think OFX is US only). I have
worked closely with him on many OFX related issues as well as other issues
and as long as I follow through he always fixes the problem. In addition
it's possible this is either the fault of the broker (non standard OFX) or
ofxlib, which is not the responsibility of KMM. I know one of my problems
that was caused by a non standard OFX file was fixed within KMM so it can
happen.

In order for them to help solve your problem they will need lots of details
and probably a sample OFX file or two. I have not followed through on my
earlier requests so at this point I blame myself that they have not been
worked on. If you feel ignored just re-post your question, eventually
someone will get back to you. I strongly urge you to keep it very positive,
I've seen some nasty emails to developers on this list and they don't
deserve it (and the person does not get any help). They need our help to
solve many of these problems so keep trying until someone responds and then
be ready to support the developer. Squeaky wheel...

As far as fixing the code goes, if you can do that I think they would gladly
accept your changes once they review them. If they are done well I don't
think they will go to waste as long as you post them on the developer
mailing list. I'm willing to test them if you send me a patch file. I've
written scripts to download and compile from SVN and it looks for patch
files and applies them if it finds them so it's easy for me to test patches.
