[Kmymoney] Fwd: Re: kmymoney 4.5.3 installation

Hi,
  Thanks for your response.  I installed kymoney 4.5.1 using the Ubuntu
 Software Center.  It installed perfectly.  I was looking for a more current
version and I found one (kmymoney-4.5.3.tar.bz2) at sourceforge.net.  Now
how do I install this "tar ball".  I  wanted a binary version rather than
try to build it myself.  I was told by someone that "just untar it" and it
will automatically install.

Any help will certainly be appreciated.

I note you are new to Linux and I suspect you have just encountered for the
first time one of the big differences betweenLlinux and Windows.

With Linux the easiest way of installing most programs (and kmymoney is no
exception) is to look for it in your distros package manager. You will most
likely find that references to kmymoney are in there. Select and it will be
automatically downloaded and installed.

 Well, since you don't tell us in which format the file is and possibly where
you got it from, it is a bit like reading the crystal ball to give you advice
for installation. Some information about the linux distribution and version
you use would also be helpful. Do you plan to install a binary version of
KMyMoney or do you intend to build it yourself from sources?
