If you run from command line, is there anything output on console right before
it freezes?  (Also note that freezing is not crashing.)
I agree it should work, but what is your need to select an institution?  You
should be able to update an account (by HBCI - do you mean aqbanking?) by
selecting the account in Accounts View, or opening the account in the Ledgers
View.
