Mixed news after trying the latest appimage (2026-01-07 17:07)
The errors I reported are no longer present.  However, v5.2 is way more noisy
in the syslog than v5.1 during normal operations.  Every single UI change or
navigation generates multiple entries (sometimes a dozen at a time).  Over the
course of one session I had easily a hundred or more writes to the syslog. 
Clearly this shouldn't be a problem like the errors that were flooding the logs
earlier, but the verbosity seems high; just an FYI.

This issue can be closed.  Thanks for your guidance.
