Actually it seems if you click anywhere on the row of a category, that category
is chosen.  In addition, if there are sub-categories of that row, they are
expanded or contracted as appropriate before the category is chosen and the
drop-down closed.  I tested with Version 5.2.70-8f1ee7263 compiled from git
master on Artix Linux.  On the other hand, if you select the category with the
up/down arrow keys, then the right/left arrow will expand/collapse any
sub-categories.  I don't know if this has long been the case or is a
regression, but I wonder if the drop down is unable to detect any details of
where in the row the user clicked - on the category name itself, or the
collapse/expand arrow.
