The translator team offers as an option:

> You can also branch after you have created a tar by using the branchme.rb script from releaseme. 

Unless there are important reasons not to, this is the plan.  

The page also says 

> Before a release, you'll need to give translators a notification about the upcoming new version. Then write an email to the translators about a month before the release

Since there are currently still a few necessary adjustments to the UI regarding
reports, this is planned for the beginning of January 2025.
