How hard did you look for this feature?  I'll accept responsibility that Close
Account is not (adequately) mentioned in the Handbook, although it is listed in
the References Section

but with no explanation.  
Did you look at the Accounts menu?  Close Accounts is a bit over half way down.
 It will be disabled unless the account has a 0 balance,   Closed accounts are
normally not shown in any displays, unless you check "Show all accounts" under
the View menu.
