Minor point - you can quickly toggle the display of closed accounts with
Ctl-Shift-A, so you do not need to open the settings dialog.  It can also be
changed under the View menu - Show all accounts.
There were some changes (since 5.0.1 although I don't recall the exact version)
to make things more consistent, and to consolidate two different settings which
essentially controlled the same thing.  I don't believe that they changed the
actual behavior, but I may well be wrong.
As far as I know, there is no way to get closed accounts shown in one display
but not another.  If you really want that option, you could convert this bug to
a severity (the field next to Importance) of wishlist.
