The choice of which account (or categories, which are treated internally as
accounts) to display in the ledger is not a filter, and so cannot be "cleared."
 Besides, if you cleared the account being displayed, that would leave a blank
ledger.  When you say you want to see the full ledger again, you do have to
choose a single account.  You listed two ways, but you can also double click on
a single transaction and the ledger will switch to the account of that
transaction.

If I've misunderstood, or you can think of another way to select a different
category or account, let us know.
