Master has been updated

Hi,

as announced recently, the master branch has been updated with the new
model backend code. It compiles already under Linux and FreeBSD but chokes
on Windows. The development team is working on a fix.

Next will to fix all the open ends that need to be ported.

Looking forward to get the new technology working.
