I don't understand the Gentoo CMAKE_BUILD_OPTIONS either, but getting it to not
strip symbols takes changing the environment of the ebuild.  Instead, I rebuilt
manually, but have run into separate problems with loading (trying to load) the
wrong plugins, so it may take me a bit to revise my process for
building/loading a second version.  I'm still working on it.
