know why "make install" would still be compiling anything.  Anyway - "internal
compiler error: Segmentation fault"  does not sound like a simple compilation
error.  Does repeating the make fail in the same place consistently?  If not, I
would suspect a problem with RAM and run a memtest.  If the failure is
repeatable, let us know and we'll look deeper.
