Did you try this:
- Select the report section and open the 'Networth graph' from the Chart
section in the report view..
- Configure the report so that
  - on Rows/Colums tab Columns are set to Quarterly, Rows are set to
Income/Expense and Details are set to Totals
  - on Payee tab the payee in question is marked

I just tried this on master but it should also work on 4.6.6 or 4.7.2. Does
that get close to what you look for?
