By "hiding" do you actually mean not including them by unchecking them on the
configuration page?  As you realize, that is not hiding them, it is not
including them at all.  I think one way to describe what you want is to have
separate "include" and "display" checks for each account/category/...

Have you tried exporting the report to excel?  It would still be work, but not
require manually redoing the sums.
