First, whether that field is total amount or price per share depends on  
the configuration, and I think there are multiple levels, in that you  
can specify specifically for that equity, for that investment account,  
and overall for KMM.

I don't see how you can remove the interest field from a reinvest  
transaction.  I use that to specify (using different categories)  
whether the amount is taxable or not, dividend, foreign dividend, .....

However, this sounds related to a message I posted recently about not  
being able to delete a security.  The issue was that when KMM imported  
(OFX) a dividend transaction, it actually created a split transaction:  
the interes/dividend category for the amount, and the equity for $0.  I  
haven't looked carefully, but when converting from a dividend to a  
reinvest transaction, I wonder if there is somehow an extra split,  
accounting for the imbalance.  Perhaps when changing the transaction  
type, you need to consider what to do with all existing splits already  
in that transaction.
