I have done some additional testing on this issue and I am unable to recreate
it after booting from Linux Mint 17 on the *exact same hardware*.  I can only
assume that the initial swap of the CPU caused an extremely deep bug that will
hopefully never blight anyone ever again.  For now, I believe this is not
reproducible but this public record can stand as a monument to any who follow
this rabbit hole.
