The start menu is missing from Windows 8.1. While this has nothing to do
with KMM there are several ways to get the start menu back. One option is
called classic shell:

http://www.classicshell.net/

I run KMM on Linux and have never installed it on Windows but I'll bet the
menu entries are there once you install Classic Shell.

There may be a link on the "Metro" interface for KMM.
