I don't know if this is frowned upon, or even worse, but if there is a severe
issue, might a hex-edit of the ofx plugin be worth a try?

Obviously, I never suggested this, and it would be at owner's risk, and with a
good proper backup, but if there will be some delay before the distro catches
up, I might have been inclined to try it.

Ghex looks reasonable, but what would the devs do?

Stressing again, don't even think of doing it if you're not fully confident.  I
don't know if the insertion of data would be detected and throw an error,
but...
