Yes I did base it on version 4.7.1. 

Regarding the spaces... well, I said the patch is incomplete. The extra spaces
are the result of me playing around with printf for debugging :). The patch
needs extra work to make it adjust to your coding style, for showing the
tooltip for "total" rows as well, etc. I submitted it just as an example of the
final expected result and the simplicity of its implementation.

For me, it has made a great difference when using reports.
