The more I look at it, the more I realize that I was clueless in using the
application and assumed these annoyances were bugs but really they were
features that I didnt use properly/at all..

I use slackware.  In slackware, we are not presented with a nice GUI install
assistant like ubuntu or fedora which asks you about country, timezone,
currency etc...

;)  Slackware=KISS

Again, let me confirm the KDE settings are wrong, and I will post back!
