Mark,
I'm not sure whether you understand the actual restriction in KMM. An
investment account only holds securities, no money. When any investment
transaction is entered (in the investment account) if there is any money
required (to buy) or generated (sell or dividend) you specify which account
that money goes to or comes from. Normally that is the account specified as
the brokerage account for the investment account, but it can be any account
that holds money. If you have an account with a brokerage firm that has both
securities and investments, in KMM, you have to use a pair of accounts: one
investment for the securities and one cash/saving/checking account to hold the
money. You can transfer funds from your checking account to the specified
brokerage account and then use it to buy stock, but you can't transfer the
money directly to the investment account. If you want to buy stock using money
in your checking account, you can do so, but not by transferring the money -
just specify the checking account in the stock purchase transaction, which has
to be entered in the investment account.
