Thanks I solved the problem by opening a new account in File/New but I like
your method better if I track say car expenses separately.

However I have another issue to ask about if that's OK.

I cannot enter any transactions more then a week prior to the current date.
eg today is Feb 12 no entry permitted before Feb 5. Can this be changed in
any of the settings?
