As you have discovered, the current system date is not related to this problem.
 However, if your locale is set correctly, then KMM (by way of the KDE
libraries) should use the correct (for you) date format.

In KMM, check the menu "Settings" "KDE Language Settings" for the date format,
and see if it is really set correctly for your location.
