What is the date of the transaction you are trying to enter, and what is the
creation/opening date of the account?  I'll guess either there was a typo in
the date when creating the account, or it was set to the date you set up the
account instead of when the account was actually created, and you are entering
historic information with an earlier date.  I'm not sure why it allows you to
transfer money in, unless the date of the transfer just happens to be later
than the account creation date.  

You can fix the account creation date with the "edit account" dialog.
