Well, this is a KDE configuration problem on your end. For KDE to search
plugins in other directories (such as /usr/local/...) you need to tell it to do
so. This is not a KMyMoney issue, since you noted, that it works when installed
in the KDE space.

"kde4-config --path module" tells you where KDE searches for the plugins.
