Jack, Thank you for your assistance. Your advice has helped me make some sense
of what the "updated" version has been doing. As you say, there are indeed
files/Ledgers in the program and I have found them, but when I click on the
current downloads from my bank I see that the KDE logo comes up and says
loading and eventually this goes away. So I open up the ledger and there is no
update so I don't know what the program has done with it. I'm sorry if this
sounds awful stupid but this program is quite different in style from what I
originally used. I use the Ubuntu Software Centre for the update, as that's
what the system prompts me to do. I hope this helps. I'm not sure if the
program itself is your area, and if not I will appreciate that you cannot help
