For a new transaction, the date has been set already, and I then select
the payee - in fact the focus is there already , and completion works OK
on that. No drop-down of recent transactions appears either then or when
I click on Category.

I've even tried renaming the resource file in case that was corrupted,
but that made no difference.

Er, oh dear, it works now!  I've returned the autofill on 10%, as it
was originally and all is sweetness and light.  I'll try other settings
I might have disturbed, or go to sleep or something.
