For sure, something changed in the kubuntu libraries...
I didn't find references of people running KMM 4.6 on Ubuntu 11.10 from 
scratch (meaning, installing a bin).
I feel myself lonesome in a kind of no man's land between Ubuntu and kmm.
One changed some function, the other didn't follow ....
Most of users don't use this functionality...
I'll try to continue to refine my diagnosis.
