You're running a Gnome system with a KDE program.  Can we come back to the
suggestion I made earlier, echoed by Jack, to try to access the files with
another KDE program, KWite,Dolphin, Konqueror.  These points are important in
identifying the problem area.

Also, I suggested using the Claydoh PPA to get the latest version of KMM.
