Thanks a lot! It indeed has something to do with mis-configured gpg-agent. I
installed pinentry-qt, created gpg-agent.conf and added use-agent option to
gpg.conf. Now KMM opens the encrypted file correctly. 

Still it would be nice if KMM could give some error message about problems with
gpg-agent.
