Splash screen graphics are ideal for this purpose because they
demonstrate professional craftsmanship. Simplifying the design to a
mascot that is suitable for use as an icon, even if it is never to be
incorporated into the logo/icon, detracts from the seriousness of the
app. I just wanted to point that out. The world is still finding it very
difficult to switch from proprietary solutions to FLOSS, even where
FLOSS has clear advantages, especially now that people are more
skeptical of American corporations. One of the problems, however, is the
playfulness, which is too reminiscent of proprietary consumer apps
rather than professional proprietary apps. As I said, I just want to
point something out, to spark a thought.

The world is changing, yet expectations remain. It would be nice if our
FLOSS communities could try to become a more successful counterpoint to
the proprietary world. I miss this professionalism.
