If we're a registered charity, people can deduct their donations from
their income tax (in the eu) and the foundation can donate money to
developers, instead of having to pay them.

The Krita Foundation was created to make it possible to support Dmitry
working full-time on Krita. After my break-down last year (two full-time
jobs was a bit much), the Foundation has also been supporting my work.
