question about repainting

In the transform tool I need to be able to enforce the canvas to be 
repainted . How do I do that.

specifically I need to do the following:

unpaint controlhandles
do the transform
force canvas to repaint
paint new controlhandles

It seems that the recent redrawing changes, have broken what used to work. 
What do I do?
