Then maybe you can try out my config and confirm (or not) that krita has

I have my XOrg the regular input devices, and then
Identifier "stylus"
Option "Type" "stylus"
And that is _all_. So _NO_ eraser and stuff like that. Then when you try
painting with your eraser (which is thus not configured, how evil of me).
* When I am _about_ to touch the tablet with the eraser end, I see krita
switch like mad between non-tablet and tablet GUI layout. When I draw, it
decides it is not a tablet after all, but it does not paint a thing!
* When I switch back and forth between stylus and eraser, I get very weird
results. Most of the time I can't draw at all anymore (even with regular
stylys)!
* I had it once that switching like that, kept adding input device dialog
things, including the wet one, even when it was an RGB layer!
